Editing Your Tailored Resume

Once your tailored resume is created, you will land in the Huntr Tailored Resume Builder. There are 4 sections that you will use to customize your resume: Editor, Layout & Style, Templates, and Job Match Score.

Editor

The Editor section will allow you to customize the content within your tailored resume to better match the specific job requirements.

1. Target Job Title

This sits at the top of your resume. It should precisely match the title in the job posting you're applying for to optimize for ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems).

2. Personal Info

Displays name, contact info, and location.

3. Professional Summary

Tailor this section to highlight experiences and skills specifically mentioned in the job description. Use the AI Generator to optimize your summary based on the job requirements, or enter your own manually. Focus on creating alignment between your experience and the position's needs.

4. Work Experience

Highlighted achievements should be customized to showcase relevant skills and accomplishments that match the job requirements. Use the AI generator to rewrite your existing achievements with job-specific keywords or create new targeted bullet points.

5. Volunteer Experience

Customize volunteer achievements to emphasize transferable skills relevant to the target position.

6. Education

This section allows you to highlight relevant coursework or academic achievements that align with the job requirements.

7. Certifications

Emphasize certifications that are most relevant to the position you're applying for, potentially reordering them based on importance to the role.

8. Skills

The Skills section for your tailored resume should prioritize keywords from the job description. The system will highlight missing skills based on the job requirements, and you can use AI Suggestions to add job-specific skills to your resume.

9. Projects

Highlight projects that demonstrate your experience with skills or technologies mentioned in the job description.

10.Social Media & Links

Prioritize professional profiles and portfolios most relevant to the specific industry or role.

Saving Tailored Resume as Base Resume

Tailoring a Resume to a job may create a great resume for a specific job type. Clicking the Save as Base Resume will keep your Tailored Resume but will also duplicate it to create a Base Resume.

Using features within the Editor Section

There are three types of adjustments that can be made within the Editor Section. The Experience Editor, Details Editor, and AI Suggestions include different functionalities to support the changes made to your tailored resume.

Experience Editor

The Experience Editor uses AI suggestions to help customize your experiences to better match the job description. This also includes quick actions to edit within text boxes, delete content and sort content.

  1. Add Experience: Add and create a new Section within the resume for a role you would like to include in your tailored resume.

  2. Sort: Automatically organize your work experience from Most Recent or Most Relevant to the job description.

  3. Details Editor Icon: Allows you to further edit the experience or remove the experience.

  4. Quick Icons: Allows you to Edit the achievement manually, regenerate the achievement with job-specific AI, and delete the achievement.

  5. Add Achievement: Add a new achievement to this work experience that highlights job-relevant skills.

  6. AI Suggestions: Opens a new window to allow you to choose Context Keywords, Job Description Keywords and develop an Achievement that aligns with the position.

Details Editor

When clicking Edit Experience the Work Experience will open into another editing window. The quick icons will still be accessible, you will be able to adjust the date or date formatting, change the Job Title, Employer, and Location. When making changes in this window, be sure to click the Update button to save all changes.

AI Suggestions

The AI generator for tailored resumes is job-description aware and will use keywords from the job posting to produce multiple possible achievements that can be added to your resume. The AI will scan both your resume and the job description to provide suggested keywords that can be used to generate these new achievements, or you can enter a specific keyword in the Context Keyword section to create your own. Select a suggestion to then add to your tailored resume.

Style & Layout

Personalizing your tailored resume to match industry expectations.

Style & Layout focuses on adjusting titles, font sizes, date formats, and the organization of your resume to align with industry standards for your target role. Depending on the template, you are able to rename and move any of the 8 sections that appear on each resume.

  1. Retitle/Rename: Customize section titles to better fit the terminology used in the job description. For example, rename "Projects" to "Case Studies" for consulting roles. Simply click on the section title or the Pencil icon to make edits, and your changes will autosave.

  2. Move Sections: Easily reorder sections to prioritize what the employer is looking for. For instance, place "Skills" higher if technical abilities are emphasized in the job description. Just drag and drop sections within the resume builder to reorganize them.

  3. Font size: Change the font size across your entire resume for consistent formatting. Different industries may prefer different styles - more compact for traditional fields or more spacious for creative roles.

  4. Date Format: Standardize the date format throughout your resume to maintain professionalism. Choose from options like "MM/YYYY" or "Month YYYY," and the selected format will apply to all dates.

ℹ️ Note: When changing the name of a section in Style & Layout, it will reflect on the Tailored Resume, but will not change in the Editor tab.

Templates

Huntr provides 7 professionally designed templates in a variety of colors and styles. Each template is ATS-friendly and carefully configured to make adding your resume content seamless, eliminating the need to worry about design or formatting adjustments.

You are able to view and adjust each template by clicking each template preview and colour block located in the Templates section.

Consider choosing templates that align with industry expectations for your target role. More conservative fields may prefer traditional layouts, while creative industries might appreciate modern designs.

Job Match Score

The Job Match Score helps you understand how well your resume aligns with a specific job posting. The score is generated by analyzing your resume against the job description, job title, and company name you’ve saved in Huntr. A higher score means your resume is a stronger match, which increases your chances of being noticed by recruiters and hiring managers.

It evaluates four key elements from the job posting:

Qualifications: The required skills and experience for the role.

Responsibilities: The primary and secondary duties of the job.

Keywords: Important terms, technologies, and soft skills mentioned in the posting.

Job Title Match: The essence of the role (e.g., “Product Design Lead” from “Product Placement Design Lead for the Marketing Team”).

📝 Note: Unlike older versions that focused mainly on keywords, the new

Job Match Score uses a weighted system powered by large language models.

Weighting & Importance

Not all items are equal. Our system assigns importance levels Must-Have vs. Nice-to-Have and scores accordingly:

Qualifications: Make up the largest share of your score (roughly one-third to one-half). Must-Have qualifications are weighted most heavily.

Responsibilities: Core responsibilities carry more weight than secondary ones.

Keywords: Usually account for less than 20% of the final score. Must-Have keywords (e.g., required technologies) count more than Nice-to-Haves (e.g., many soft skills). This prevents “keyword stuffing.” Even if you match every keyword, your score will remain low without the right qualifications or responsibilities.

Score Categories

Instead of only a 0–100 numeric scale, scores now appear in five categories: Poor, Weak, Fair, Good, Great

A Good or Great score means your resume is highly competitive for the role. Fair suggests you’re about average among applicants. Weak or Poor may indicate either a low fit for the role or that your resume needs more tailoring.

Improving Your Score

The Job Match Score is interactive, you can see exactly what’s covered by your resume and what’s missing.

  1. Identify Missing Items: The dashboard highlights which qualifications, responsibilities, and keywords are Covered and Not Covered. Focus on adding items that genuinely reflect your experience.

  2. AI Assistance: Click the + icon next to a Not Covered item to either manually add details or generate a draft with AI. For example, you can select a past job and ask AI to write a tailored achievement bullet point.

  3. Explanations: Click the info icon to see why an item is or isn’t covered. Explanations point to the specific parts of your resume that demonstrate coverage, helping you understand the logic behind your score.

  4. Semantic Matching: Our system goes beyond keywords. It recognizes context (e.g., “storytelling” may be covered if your resume describes presenting narratives to stakeholders, even if the word itself isn’t present).

Faster Tailoring with AI Tailor

If you want a head start, the AI Tailor feature can automatically generate a tailored version of your resume for a job description in just a few minutes. It provides suggested edits for your summary, skills, and experiences, which you can review and refine before finalizing.
